About the role
Own the full E&I scope from installation through commissioning for the EarthEN Heat Battery. Deliver a safe, on-schedule, and high-quality E&I commissioning outcome as the single accountable lead. Ensure all electrical and instrumentation systems are fully functional and handed over successfully.
What you’ll do
- Review electrical single-line diagrams, cable schedules, instrument index, hook-up drawings, and P&IDs prior to site mobilisation.
- Verify vendor-supplied panels, MCCs, VFDs, transmitters, and control system hardware against purchase order specifications, in coordination with the vendor FAT process.
- Plan cable routing, earthing/grounding layout, and instrument tubing runs for the site.
- Supervise and/or execute cable laying, termination, and panel installation.
- Oversee MCC/VFD mounting for compressors, turbo-expanders, pumps, and heater circuits.
- Oversee mounting of pressure transmitters, RTDs/thermocouples, flow meters, and level instruments on the heat storage vessel and associated piping.
- Ensure earthing, continuity, and insulation resistance (megger) testing is completed and documented.

Job description
Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Lead – Installation & Commissioning, EarthEN Heat Battery
Position Title
E&I Installation & Commissioning Lead
Department
Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)
Reports to
Project Manager / Site Head – EarthEN Heat Battery Installation
Location
Project Site (Bangalore / as assigned)
Employment Type
Full-time – Project-based / Permanent (as applicable)
Experience required
6–10 years, including prior lead/sole-charge commissioning experience
Role Purpose
The E&I Lead is the single point of accountability for all electrical and instrumentation activities — from installation through commissioning — for the EarthEN Heat Battery (a long-duration heat storage unit that stores thermal energy within a vessel). This role owns the outcome, safety, schedule, and quality of the full E&I scope, delegating hands-on execution to technicians where required while retaining end-to-end responsibility.
Key responsibilities
Pre-Installation
Review electrical single-line diagrams, cable schedules, instrument index, hook-up drawings, and P&IDs prior to site mobilisation.
Verify vendor-supplied panels, MCCs, VFDs, transmitters, and control system hardware against purchase order specifications, in coordination with the vendor FAT process.
Plan cable routing, earthing/grounding layout, and instrument tubing runs for the site.
Installation
Supervise and/or execute cable laying, termination, and panel installation.
Oversee MCC/VFD mounting for compressors, turbo-expanders, pumps, and heater circuits.
Oversee mounting of pressure transmitters, RTDs/thermocouples, flow meters, and level instruments on the heat storage vessel and associated piping.
Ensure earthing, continuity, and insulation resistance (megger) testing is completed and documented.
Manage PLC/DCS panel installation, I/O wiring, and control cabinet setup.
Commissioning
Run loop checks and functional tests for every instrument and control loop.
Configure and validate PLC/DCS logic, interlocks, alarms, and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) sequences.
Commission fire detection and safety systems for the vessel and surrounding installation area.
Coordinate Site Acceptance Test (SAT), punch-list closure, and final handover documentation.
Independently troubleshoot and resolve electrical/instrumentation faults during startup.
Qualifications & experience
B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical, Instrumentation, or E&I Engineering.
6–10 years of total experience, with significant time in commissioning of process or power plants — background in energy storage, power generation, or process/thermal industries is preferred given the high-temperature heat storage vessel environment.
Demonstrated experience as the sole/lead E&I person on at least one prior plant commissioning assignment.
Hands-on experience with at least one major DCS/PLC platform (Siemens, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Honeywell, or equivalent).
Working knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), HART instrumentation, and calibration procedures.
Proficient in reading and red-lining electrical and instrumentation drawings on-site.
Additional requirements Specific to This role
High-temperature process safety awareness, including thermal hazard management and confined-space protocols around the storage vessel.
Electrical safety certification per applicable local code (e.g., IE Rules for India-based sites).
Experience with permit-to-work systems (hot work, LOTO, working at height).
Strong self-sufficiency and independent decision-making — this role serves as the sole E&I authority on site, often with limited on-site engineering support.
Key competencies
Ownership mindset — comfortable being the single accountable point of contact for E&I outcomes.
Strong troubleshooting ability under time pressure during startup and commissioning.
Clear documentation and reporting discipline (loop sheets, punch lists, test records).
Effective coordination with mechanical/process teams and vendors.
Note: This role concentrates full E&I responsibility in one individual, which is suitable for a single pilot/unit installation. For parallel or multi-site rollouts, consider building in an understudy or deputy E&I engineer to avoid a single point of failure.
